Flying privately to Zurich or Zug: choose the airport around your day.
Start with the meeting address and arrival deadline. Then compare the airport, handling and onward journey as one plan.
For a private flight to Zurich or Zug, Zurich Airport is a sensible starting point to assess. Zug Tourism recommends it for reaching Zug, and it has established business-aviation handling. A regional airfield can change the journey, but it also changes the operating requirements. Compare the complete plan rather than selecting the nearest airport on a map.
Zurich Airport is the straightforward first comparison for a meeting in Zurich, Zug, Baar or Cham. Buochs may enter the discussion for a Central Switzerland itinerary, particularly if the trip also includes the Lucerne region. It should be assessed as a different proposition, not assumed to be a smaller version of Zurich.
Which airport should you compare?

| Airport | What is different? | What it means for your plan |
|---|---|---|
| Zurich Airport | Business-aviation handlers operate there, and arrivals and departures require airport slots. | Compare the proposed flight time with the handling and onward journey. A requested time still needs operational confirmation. |
| Buochs | The airport describes itself as primarily VFR, meaning visual flight rules. Every flight requires prior permission, and international flights need advance notification. | Have the operator assess the aircraft, schedule, weather requirements and permissions before comparing its ground journey with Zurich. Published operating windows can matter as much as location. |
Another nearby name, Dübendorf, is a military airfield with occasional civilian co-use according to the Swiss aviation authority. It should not be treated as a normally bookable substitute simply because it appears in an airport search.
Work backwards from where you need to be
A city-centre appointment, an office in Baar and several stops around Lake Zurich are different itineraries. Give the actual address and the time you must be there. For a return flight, give the time you can realistically leave the final stop.

| Onward option | Useful when | Allow for |
|---|---|---|
| Pre-arranged car to the final address | You have a fixed appointment, several passengers, substantial luggage or multiple stops. | The pickup point at the handling facility, luggage capacity, road conditions and who updates the driver if the flight changes. |
| Rail toward central Zurich | Your destination is convenient for Zurich HB and the station-to-destination leg suits your party. | Zurich Airport publishes an approximately 15-minute train ride from the airport station to Zurich HB. That figure does not include leaving the private-flight handling facility or reaching your final address. |
| Rail toward Zug | Your destination is convenient for Zug station and you prefer a rail-based onward journey. | Zug Tourism publishes a journey of about 50 minutes from Zurich Airport to Zug station. Add the transfer to the station and the final leg; check the timetable for your date. |
Where do private-flight passengers go at Zurich?
Use the meeting instructions from the ground handler, often called an FBO. Do not automatically send your driver to the airline check-in or arrivals area. Zurich Airport requires passengers to be escorted between the General Aviation Center and the aircraft, and departure security checks still apply.
Before travel, keep one concise confirmation on your phone: the handler's name, entrance or pickup address, local meeting time, driver details and the contact for changes. If someone else is arranging the trip, share that confirmation with the traveller and chauffeur together.
Turn the appointment into a useful flight request
The most important distinction is between landing at the airport and arriving where you need to be. A landing time leaves the handling and ground journey unresolved; an appointment deadline gives the coordinator an objective to work backwards from.
Example: a morning meeting in Baar
Suppose four colleagues need to be at a Baar office at 10:00 and want to return that evening. The useful request is not simply “land in Zurich at 09:30.” It identifies the office address, the 10:00 deadline, the luggage and the earliest realistic departure from the final meeting. This is an illustrative brief, not a flight or transfer-time estimate.
- Flight: origin, date, one-way or return, passengers and luggage or equipment.
- Day on the ground: final addresses, fixed appointment and any intermediate stops.
- Flexibility: what can move—the departure, airport, meeting or return window?
- Onward arrangements: whether you need a vehicle and whether the quotation should include it.
A brief you can adapt
“Four passengers from London on [date], travelling to [Baar address] by 10:00, with [luggage]. Return after [time] from our final stop at [address]. Please propose the flight and onward transfer together, identify the airport and explain what the total includes.”
Once you have a proposal, use the Swiss charter quotation checklist to compare the full offer. If the trip continues to Davos, use the separate Davos airport and transfer guide.
